In addition to this information, we have our English Policy and also a Reading and Spelling Progression of Skills document.
At St Teresa's School, we follow our own systematic synthetic phonics teaching programme ensuring high-quality phonics teaching which supported and offers children the best opportunities to become competent, fluent readers.
We teach in a fun and engaging way putting the children's individual needs at the heart of everything we teach.
In EYFS and Key Stage 1 there are 6 distinct STEPS.
STEP 1, 2 and 3 are taught in Reception Class
STEP 3 (recapped), 4 and 5 are taught in Year One

Our Reading Schemes
We provide children with high quality texts that challenge them to apply their phonics skills and consolidate their learning. We also use Bug Club, an interactive reading programme to offer children an additional range of books that can be read to them as well as read by them. Comprehension skills are also supported and developed through this programme.
